Chandra Sen is an experienced and widely known registered clinical Counsellor in British Columbia. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from UBC and for 25 years has been focusing her work in the field of infertility counseling and helping patients navigate their way during difficult times. Widely considered an expert in this area, she has given multiple talks and presentations at national fertility forums and other meetings.
Therapy for Individuals & Couples
Women
Having babies is viewed largely as a woman’s issue. We pay a lot of attention to the woman’s physical and emotional aspects in studying and discussing reproductive difficulties. Most women report anxiety as their constant and unruly companion as they ride this emotional roller coaster of infertility.
Couples
Even though both partners are affected emotionally, they do not necessarily feel things in the same ways, or at the same time. Couples report experiencing the whole gamut of human emotions and often describe feeling as if being on a roller coaster of difficult to manage feelings.
Men
For many men, it can be difficult to process & display emotions, especially sadness and vulnerability and, in their infertility journey, they can find themselves challenged in labelling and addressing their own feelings. There is a lack of opportunities for men to discuss their feelings.
currently all sessions are remote
Conferences & Workshops
In addition to working directly with clients, Chandra presents at many conferences, conducts workshops for patients and professionals and trains other health care professionals. Chandra’s conferences have included Cross-Cultural Issues in Therapy (UBC), Child Sexual Abuse in Anaheim, California, Universidad de San José in Costa Rica, CFAS. Several of her presentations to clinicians have been on topics such as Patient-Centred Care, Delivering Difficult News, Working with Difficult People and on fertility focused issues of managing stress and anxiety, and issues related to third party reproduction. Since 2010, Chandra has conducted regular Support Groups for women going through treatment at PCRM and Olive Clinics.

I felt my world falling apart. A sense of fear, shame, guilt, and of just being a failure overtook me each morning as I looked in the mirror. Sitting lost in confusion, I did not understand how my marriage was breaking down or more simply what I wanted from this relationship. During this time of crisis Chandra’s compassionate understanding helped me find the pieces of myself and how I wanted to move forward. Our sessions helped give me perspective on the situation, what to pay attention to, how to set boundaries and improve my own communications, and most importantly what I needed to feel good about my role in the eventual end of my marriage. Moving through the big topics Chandra has an uncanny way of supporting you in your journey by listening and providing direct feedback that shares her wealth of knowledge in the kindest of ways. This has helped me reframe what role I play in relationships in my life and shift my decision making to one of empowerment.
